Czech bank account

If you want to be credible in the environment of Czech online stores, sooner or later you are bound to encounter a question about opening a bank account in the Czech Republic. A Czech bank account is a guarantee of a successful business and, above all, a convenient and invaluable payment method for your customers.

Why is this important?

  • Bank accounts in the Czech Republic have a specific format, which means that they differ significantly from, for example, a Polish bank account (see Czech bank account format).
  • Staying with a Polish bank account would be detrimental to your Czech customers, as fees are charged when paying abroad.
  • Another disadvantage is the conversion from PLN to CZK, which will result in the customer not receiving the exact amount in CZK into a Czech bank account. Of course, in Poland it is possible to open a foreign currency account directly in CZK and send transfers from it, but this involves fees for you, since even in this case it is a foreign payment.
  • Bank transfer is a popular payment method in online stores.
  • A bank account in the Czech Republic is needed to send financial compensation, for example, for complaints, but mainly for refunds due to overpayment on the part of the customer or the customer’s right to withdraw from the contract.

Czech bank account format

The prefix is the first six digits before the hyphen. This is optional information and not every bank account has it. Most bank accounts do not contain a prefix.

The account number itself must contain at least 2 digits, with a maximum of 10. In some banks you can choose this part of the account number yourself. A bank account usually consists of 10 digits.

The last part of the bank account after the slash contains the code of your bank. The bank code is exactly a four-digit number used to directly identify a banking institution in the Czech Republic. The four-digit bank code is used for domestic non-cash payments. For payments to Europe or elsewhere in the world, the bank code is not used, but the IBAN number is.
