How to create and send an order?

There has been a trend lately, especially on an unnamed Facebook group, that some principals want the quote to be based on one or two sentences. Often such people are unable to formulate what they really want and prefer not to even respond to requests for additional details. This causes confusion and is primarily a waste of time for the potential translator.

In this article, we will focus on how to prepare an order so that the translator can price it.

The first question you need to ask yourself is what you really need. Translating a website, proofreading a text, translating an assembly manual or communicating with a customer? The goal is authoritative because the next steps are derived from it. Example: If you need someone to contact your customer in a foreign language, you don’t need to create a text file.

The second question is equally important. Do I need one-time help? For example, translating a website. Or do I need permanent cooperation? For example, help with customer service. The entire order process then depends on these first two questions.

One-time cooperation

So if we know that we will benefit from a one-time collaboration, we need to prepare a text file. We need a text file in case of translations from Polish to Czech. Clients send files in various formats, most commonly .docx, .doc, .pdf, .csv, .xlsx, .txt or via a link to an online magazine, usually if the file is larger. Personally, we recommend creating a text document in Word, since we have to convert every other format to Word anyway so the program can count words with spaces. You copy the text from your site manually into Word, or you can consult your IT department, which should advise you on how to get the text from your site faster.
